Town residents aged 12 and over can stop by the Tolland Public Library between now and an Open House on Sept. 22 to enter to win a Barnes & Noble Nook e-reader.
One entry is being accepted per town resident.
They can also enter to win the Nook Saturday, Sept. 15 at Celebrate Tolland from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Tolland High School and during the Open House Sept. 22 at the library. The winner’s name will be drawn Sept. 22 at 2:30 p.m., but the winner need not be present to receive the Nook.
The “Take a Look, Win a Nook” drawing is being sponsored by the Tolland Public Library Foundation to encourage residents to get reacquainted with a town treasure – their public library. Even as the book industry is changing rapidly, the library remains a hub of free information and technology for town residents.
The library allows Tolland cardholders to check out one of several Nooks that come with free material already downloaded such as “The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” by Stieg Larsson.
The Foundation has also supported many new, exciting programs and provided resources to the library, including:
*Free access to online databases such as Ancestry.com, ConsumerReports.org and Credo Plus Unlimited, a database of reference books
*New early literacy and intermediate school computer learning stations
*The Eaton-Dimock-King Authors Series
*The Year of the Young Adult initiative, which has featured college planning seminars, author visits, a book club to discuss "The Hunger Games" trilogy and a poetry slam
The Foundation was established in 1996 to receive donations to benefit the Tolland Public Library and to enhance library services beyond what the town budget provides. It has recently purchased two early literacy computer stations for children, sponsors the Eaton-Dimock-King Authors Series and has been holding “Year of the Young Adult” programs.
Donations may be sent to the Tolland Public Library Foundation, 21 Tolland Green, Tolland, Ct. 06084. For more information, call the library at 860-871-3620 or "like" the Foundation on Facebook.
