Fire on Buff Cap Road Damages Home, Occupants Not Injured

The Tolland Fire Department, along with firefighters from surrounding towns, extinguished the blaze at approximately 9 a.m. Saturday.

A Tolland home suffered significant damage from a fire Saturday morning but its occupants were unharmed in the blaze.

The Tolland Fire Department was first notified of the fire at 670 Buff Cap Road at approximately 8:40 a.m. Saturday morning. Tolland firefighters, along with responders from the Stafford and Crystal Lake Fire Departments, extinguished the blaze in short order.

"[It took] about 20 minutes to knock it down," said Tolland Fire Department Public Information Officer Seale Tuttle.

Between one-half and one-third of the home was visibly damaged. The exterior surrounding the most serious damage was charred and black. The interior, visible through a broken window, was scorched as well.

Tuttle said the home’s two occupants, a husband and wife, were unharmed but "very shaken up" by the fire. The couple’s two dogs appeared to be in good condition but were taken to a local veterinarian as a preventative measure.

Firefighters were checking the home for hot spots and removing the couple’s personal property around 11 a.m.

The Red Cross had contacted the couple but they would likely not need assistance from the group, according to Tuttle.

The Willington Fire Department also assisted Tolland during the fire, manning a Tolland station that responded to the emergency.
