TOLLAND, CT — The property on which a revered Tolland business stands has gone on the market.

Last week, the property at 46 Tolland Green appeared as a commercial listing on the D.W. Fish Real Estate site.

That's the home of the Tolland Red & White store, which features "a step back in time" to antiques, unique gifts, and locally made items from around the state, or as the owners put it, "a curated collection of items for the home, garden, bath, fridge and pantry."

"Historic Circa 1810 Colonial with lots of charm and character, located on the Tolland Green in a super location with high traffic count. Features 2175 sq. ft. of space, great for retail gift shop/antiques, professional office, etc. Newly painted exterior. Newer roof. City water. Excellent opportunity to own this piece of local history in an excellent New England setting."

The owners said it all has created an uncertain future for the iconic store.

"We've got some news to share — our building has been put up for sale by the owner," they said in a social media post. "Right now, we’re not sure what the future holds, but we wanted to be open with you, our wonderful community."

They have owned amnd operated the place for a decade.

"This little shop has been our home for the past 10 years," they said. " It's where we’ve shared countless memories, joyful milestones, and heartfelt conversations. Every shelf, every handmade item, every smile — it's all been possible because of you."

The store owners were clear about one thing — there is no desire to close the place.

"While there are still a lot of unknowns, one thing is certain — we're not going anywhere without a fight. It's our deepest hope — and full intention — to stay right here, in the space we’ve all grown to love."

Property owner Harold "Skip" Shaffer said he has had 46 Tolland Green for 40 years. He added that notice was given about a year ago that it was his intention to put it up for sale. Shaffer said he is not on social media and the posting from the store was mentioned to him by an acquaintance. He said he has not read it.

"It's just time to sell," he said.

The listing first appeared on July 7.
