Man Bought High-End Items At Tolland Hardware Store With Bad Checks: Warrant
A man already banned from a pawn shop was caught issuing bad checks to buy big-ticket items at a Tolland store, state police said.

TOLLAND, CT — A 62-year-old Windham man is accused of trying to buy a bunch of equipment at a Tolland hardware store with bad checks.
Michael Oakes was served a warrant on Sept. 4 charging him with fourth-and fifth-degree larceny, and issuing a bad check of between $1,000 and $2,000, according to state police.
A warrant states that the bad checks were for $1, 637.73 and $932.56 on April 16 and 17 at Star Hardware on Tolland Stage Road.

Among the items he "stole" were an electric trimmer, a leaf blower, a dehumidifier, a grill, a circular saw, a drill, a drill kit, a 21-inch lawnmower and gloves.
The warrant makes reference to Oakes being banned from a north central Connecticut pawn shop because of past antics.
