TOLLAND, CT — Radial Coffee officially opened its Tolland shop Tuesday.

It's the third overall. The 12 Goose Lane location, owned by Dipen and Tejah Shah and their friends, Steve and Barbara Brodrick, joins the Radial Coffee at 1135 Hartford Turnpike in Vernon, which opened in December 2023 and a location in Portland, Maine, which opened in January.

Dipen Shah Tuesday said he has had an eye on Tolland even before opening in Vernon. After all, he lives in town. He said he thus has found the "perfect location." It took a great deal of work to renovate the place, but with about 3,000 square feet of space, it is "exactly what Tolland needs," he said.

Comparatively, the Vernon shop measures 1,200 square feet and the Maine shop is 2,300 square feet.

"It was a good feeling at 8:58 this morning when I put that sign out," Dipen Shah said.

The sprawling shop features tables of just about every style, exposed beams, a large counter and a wrap-around porch. Artwork includes bags from Radial's coffee growers in Guatemala and Colombia and a mural painted by barista and artist Alexis Roja.

Manager Nikki Stack said she already felt a community vibe at the new location. She said it was hard to tell what was the most popular coffee of the day, but the bacon and egg sandwich with goat cheese and red pepper was easily the most popular food item.

A variety of baked goods are also available.

Oh and there's merch ... from clothing to candles that mimic the coffee selections to a coffee sugar scrub.

The coffee is roasted and ground fresh at the Vernon location and brought to the Tolland store.

One thing was certainly noticeable — the crew was happy, almost bubbly.

"It's a really good crew that really wants to be here," Dipen Shah said. "And we really want to be in Tolland."
