School Board Approves Formation of Girls Lacrosse Team

The board of education approved the creation of a girls lacrosse team at Tolland High School during its Wednesday night meeting.

According to Superintendent William Guzman, the Tolland Lacrosse Club has offered to fund the team for its first two years of existence, paying the gap left after students submit pay-to-play fees. 

It is estimated that in two years, the team's expenses beyond pay-to-play fee funds will amount to $4,707.04, to be paid by the Tolland Lacrosse Club. The club has already raised $6,000.

The high school also has a boys lacrosse team.

The school board also approved the 2013-2018 capital improvement plan, which can be viewed in the meeting agenda.

To Be Voted on at the Next Board Meeting

• Whether to hire a Director of Educational Technology to assist the district with new required teacher and student evaluation techniques, standardized testing, etc. With benefits, the salary would amount to approximately $46,322.
• Whether to accept a bid from ProTrack and Tennis, Inc. to resurface the TMS track. The company placed a bid of $94,143. The project is part of the school board's capital improvement plan.
• Whether to approve an energy investment audit as part of a potential larger energy efficiency contract with Honeywell
• Whether to approve the proposed light installation/artificial turf project at the THS athletic field.
