Tolland Police Blotter: March 12 - March 17

The following arrest reports, provided by Connecticut State Police Troop C in Tolland, are accurate as of March 18, 2011. Items on this list reflect charges filed, not convictions.

March 12 – Icy Road Conditions

State police responded to a single-car accident on Route 31 near Cedar Swamp Road early March 12. At 7:20 a.m. Barbara Sloan of Coventry was traveling north on Route31 when she lost control of the 2000 Chevrolet Impala she was driving on the black ice-covered roadway. The car struck a curb and guardrail.  Elizabeth Sloan, 18, who was a passenger in the vehicle, sustained minor injuries but decline medical help at the scene. Barbara Sloan was cited for traveling too fast for conditions.

Nicholas Thurston, 21, of 25 Fox Ridge Rd., was traveling east on Old Post Road at 7:50 a.m. when he lost control of the 2001 Saturn L200 he was driving and struck trees and a utility pole, causing support wires to fall. Fortunately, Thurston was not injured, but the same couldn’t be said for the Saturn, which had to be towed from the scene. Police cited Thurston for traveling too fast for conditions.

William J. Clark, 26, of Mansfield, was driving only Rhodes Road, near Old Cathole Road, when he failed to negotiate a turn and lost control of his vehicle and struck a utility pole on the opposite side of the road. Neither Clark nor his passenger, Lateef Chandler, 28, of Windsor, was injured. Clark was cited for failure to drive right.

March 13 - A chain reaction

Police are investigating a chain reaction-type of accident that occurred on Route 195. Marilyn Wehr, 52, of Orange, had stopped her 2007 Honda on Route 195. Megan Cruz, 22, of North Haven, was slowing her 2006 Mazda 3 to a stop behind Wehr when Leanna Antenucci, 21, of Katonah, N.Y., drove her 2003 Ford Expedition into the back of Antenucci’s Mazda, which then struck Wehr’s Honda. The Mazda and Expedition had to be towed from the scene. No injuries were reported.
