Tolland's Daily 5: PEEPs, Municipal Budget and Sweet Frog

Good morning, Tolland! Today is Tuesday, April 2, 2013; there are 273 days left in the year.

Every year it seems like April Fool’s Day brings more and more elaborate pranks, even from the corporate world. Like everything else in the world, some are good, some are bad and some are just plain ugly. 

Here’s my list of the top 3 from this year:

1. Google Nose. The eponymous search engine/world ruler made me chuckle again this year, this time with a beta-tested smell function. Bravo.

2. Netflix’s hyper-focused categories. This one actually delivers a service, breaking down films into categories such as ones that feature Nicolas Cage freakouts.

3. Scope’s bacon-flavored mouthwash. Presumably this is an April Fool’s joke. But a man can dream, can’t he?

Here’s your Daily 5:

1. The votes have been tallied and the results are in: Congratulations to Lissette Comstock, who created this beautiful and colorful wreath made of PEEPs. Comstock is the winner of Patch’s PEEPs contest for 2013. Now let’s eat!

2. The 2013-14 municipal budget is nearly complete, but there are still things to be discussed. Town Council members will meet tonight to begin to wrap up the process before finalizing the plan on Thursday. The meeting is open to the public and starts at 7:30 p.m. in the council chambers at the Hicks Memorial Municipal Center.

3. Just two more weeks before Tolland’s very own Sweet Frog is open and serving up some soft serve ice cream! Check out this photo gallery and all the pretty pastel colors.

4. OK, when I got to the pump the first thing that pops into my head isn’t, “” No, I’m still in sticker shock. But, that’s what the good people at GasBuddy.com report, and they spend their time tracking this stuff.
