Tolland Verizon Store Part Of Free Backpack Day

TOLLAND, CT — Verizon Wireless retail locations will be giving away hundreds of free backpacks later this month, and a store in Tolland is in the mix.

The free backpack event is slated for July 28 at 1 p.m.

The Tolland store at 200 Merrow Road is participating.

An extra element has been added this year called the Golden Ruler Contest in which 10 students across the U.S. will be randomly surprised with a golden ruler keychain on their free backpack, which will be good for a $100 gift card and a $1,000 Amazon Wishlist buyout for their schools.

Verizon authorized retailer, Round Room, LLC, the parent company of the local stores, is the host of the 12th annual event, dubbed the "School Rocks Backpack Giveaway." In total, Round Room will be giving more than $3 million worth of backpacks to children at more than 1,000 of its stores nationwide.

Any leftover backpacks will be donated to local schools of each store's choice.
