78-Year-Old Pinched For Pot In Vernon After Smoke Fest With Minors: Police

VERNON, CT — A 78-year-old Vernon woman is facing three felony charges after being caught smoking marijuana with a trio of minors, police said.

A complaint was lodged regarding an apartment at the Park West apartment complex on Terrace Drive at 3:36 p.m. on. Sunday, according to an arrest report. When officers arrived, they located the woman actively smoking pot with the young people, according to an arrest report.

It was also the fifth call this year to that apartment, police records show.

The woman has been charged with three counts of risk of injury to a child — a felony — along with possession of cannabis in a dwelling unit or private property by person younger than 21. The latter charge comes under the state Consumer Protection laws that regulate the use of cannabis, similar to alcohol laws.

The law states:

"No person having possession of, or exercising dominion and control over, any dwelling unit or private property shall knowingly or recklessly permit any person under twenty-one years of age to possess cannabis."

It's a class A misdemeanor.

The charges also came with a relatively high bail. The 78-year-old posted a $25,000 bond and is due in Rockville Superior Court on June 17.
