Distressed, Armed Hotel Guest Safely Taken To Hospital After Incident in Vernon
An elderly man who appeared to be in distress was safely removed from a hotel room in Vernon after a brief standoff, police said.

VERNON, CT — A bizarre incident at a Vernon hotel left police potentially saving a 78-year-old guest who was armed and apparently in distress.
Nevertheless, he is facing a pair of criminal charges, police said.

The call came into Vernon police at 12:47 that day. Staffers of the hotel said the man was locked in his room and refused to leave after his required check-out time, according to an arrest report.
Police arrived at the scene and found that the man had barricaded himself in the bathroom. He was asked several times to come out, but refused, according to an arrest report. Police broke in and found the man in the bathtub, armed with two large knives, according to an arrest report.

Police were and were able to subdue the man with a Taser and get him to an area hospital for evaluation, an arrest report says.
The man, whose listed address is in West Haven, has been charged with first-degree criminal trespass and interfering with police, records show.
