VERNON, Connecticut – Effective Jan. 6, 2025, Vernon Town Hall hours will be adjusted and late hours will shift to Tuesday from Thursday.

Vernon has long offered late hours one day during the week to give residents the opportunity to visit town hall to transact business, like renewing a dog license, obtaining vital documents like a birth certificate or pay taxes. For many years the late night was Thursday.

"Staying open late one night a week is an important service for our residents, many of whom cannot make it to town hall during the day because they are working," Vernon Mayor Dan Champagne said. "Moving the late day to Tuesday will enable us to continue this important service while creating a work schedule that will help us recruit and retain employees."

The schedule change does not impact the probate court, public works and public safety departments.
