New Year’s Day Fight Results in Trio Arrested
Two adults and a juvenile were arrested for their involvement in a fight, which started after two cell phones were allegedly stolen and ended with charges including interfering with police.

, officers were called to 68 George St. after receiving several 911 calls reporting a large fight at the single-family home, which started after two cell phones were allegedly stolen.
Once at the scene, officers found that a New Year’s Eve party was still in progress at 7 a.m. on Jan. 1 and that people who had been involved in the fight were attempting to leave the area in a vehicle, according to a police news release.

The first officer on the scene reported seeing two people walking away from the vehicle as Shadella Rogers, 25, walked toward the car in an aggressive manner while carrying a 4-foot wooden pole. When asked to stop, Rogers refused, according to police. The officer then grabbed the pole and attempted to handcuff Rogers, who began struggling with the officer, according to the release. The vehicle’s occupants exited the car and began yelling at the officer, who then called for backup.
The unidentified officer was able to handcuff Rogers by the time another officer arrived to assist. At that time one of the individuals who had been walking away from the scene, Rooty Thomas, 33, returned and confronted police. As police tried to calm Thomas, an unidentified 16-year-old male relative began yelling at the officers and fighting with one, according to the police report.

As officers struggled with Thomas and the 16-year-old, including fighting with them on the ground, Rogers, who was still handcuffed, began screaming at the group. During the ruckus, officers used a taser to subdue the 16-year-old who had attempted to bite one of the officers, according to police. The teenage male and Thomas were eventually handcuffed after the arrival of other Vernon officers, according to the release.
According to police neither Thomas, nor Rogers, nor the juvenile male were injured in the fight; an officer sustained a minor injury to his arm.
Officers charged Rogers, of Middletown, with interfering with police and breach of peace. She posted a $5,000 surety bond and is scheduled to appear in the on Jan. 10.
