Passing Of Former Police Chief In Vernon, Glastonbury Announced
A respected, retired police officer whose career included time as the chief in both Vernon and Glastonbury has died.

VERNON/GLASTONBURY, CT — A respected, retired police officer whose career included stints as the chief in both Vernon and Glastonbury has died.
Both departments announced the passing of James "Skip" Thomas Monday.

"It is with heavy hearts that we share the passing of retired Police Chief, James “Skip” Thomas. Chief Thomas began his police career is 1969 with the Glastonbury Police Department as an Officer. He rose through the ranks of the Department to Lieutenant and retired in 1984 after being appointed as the Vernon Chief of Police. Chief Thomas served here until 1987 until returning to Glastonbury as their Chief. Our thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends during this difficult time."

"The Glastonbury Police Department is deeply saddened to learn of the passing of former Glastonbury Police Chief James “Skip” Thomas. Our thoughts and prayers are with the Thomas family during this difficult time. Chief Thomas was deeply respected throughout the Connecticut law enforcement community and will be remembered as a kind, thoughtful gentleman who could always be counted on in times of need.
"His dedication to the profession was unmatched, not only through his distinguished career, but also through his continued commitment to the Connecticut Law Enforcement Memorial, which honors fallen officers, and the One Hundred Club of Connecticut, which provides support to the families of first responders who have lost their lives in the line of duty.
"Chief Thomas often spoke of the “three Fs” — faith, family, and friends — and he truly lived by those values. He will be deeply missed."
