Vernon Board of Education Appoints New Superintendent of Schools

His experiences include the roles of teacher, athletic director, director of student services, assistant superintendent, and superintendent.

On Thursday, the Board of Education appointed Joseph Macary as Vernon Superintendent of Schools, effective Oct. 1.

Macary brings 19 years of experience as a Connecticut educator to Vernon with the last 10 years of service in Wolcott. His experiences include the roles of teacher, athletic director, director of student services, assistant superintendent, and superintendent.

The board was drawn to Macary’s candidacy by the strong match of his skills with Vernon’s needs. As Wolcott Superintendent of Schools, he has been successful in leading ongoing improvements in student achievement while expertly managing resources in a very tight fiscal environment.

Macary is described as a hands-on, visible, and personable superintendent. He sets high standards for students and staff and works tirelessly to support all in meeting them.

Macary has worked in strong partnership with the Wolcott Board of Education to make the schools a true source of community pride.

Macary received his BA in Political Science and Economics from the University of Connecticut and his MA in Education from Quinnipiac College. He received a 6th year certificate from Southern Connecticut State University and is currently enrolled in the doctoral program for Educational Leadership at the University of Connecticut.
