Vernon Hosting Workshop On Energy Efficiency For Historic Structures

VERNON, Connecticut – The Vernon Local Historic Properties Commission and the Vernon Historical Society are hosting a workshop on energy efficiency for historic buildings.

The workshop, which is free and open to all, will also include representatives from the Connecticut Historic Preservation Office and Preservation Connecticut. It is scheduled for 10 a.m. to noon on Saturday, Feb. 8 in the Council Chambers on the third floor of Town Hall.

“The mills and the houses where the workers, managers and owners lived are an important part of Vernon's rich history,” Vernon Mayor Dan Champagne said. "They help tell our community's story, while also making it an attractive and interesting place to live and visit. Anything we can do to make it more affordable to own and preserve these structures is good for our community.”

Shaun Gately, Vernon's director of development services, said the workshop will offer energy efficiency ideas, advice on how to appropriately make energy efficiency improvements to historic buildings and information about financial incentives available to some owners of historic residences.

"We want to assist property owners in preservation of these historic and important structures,” Gately said. "We are partnering with the state to offer advice and training to those with historic homes to help our residents and to further our efforts for a more sustainable Vernon."

Vernon has multiple historic districts and historic buildings in the Rockville, Talcottville, and Dobsonville sections and elsewhere.
