A man charged with operating a narcotics ring in Vernon is now accused of trying to intimidate a witness in the case, police records show.

VERNON, CT — A 62-year-old Vernon man who was arrested in a drug raid last month is now accused of trying to intimidate a witness in the case, police records show.
In addition to a witness intimidation charge, Daniel Moriarty was charged on June 13 with second-degree threatening, according to an arrest report. He was released on a $350,000 bond and is scheduled for an appearance in Rockville Superior Court on June 26, according to judicial system records.
Moriarty has been free after posting $500,000 bail in connection with the May 20 drug raid at his Stonewood Terrace residence, judicial system records show. He is due back before a judge on June 20 for that arrest, and is facing charges that include operating a drug factory, possession of cocaine with the intent to distribute, possession of a controlled substance (cocaine) and possession of drug paraphernalia

The drug raid at his home broke up a distribution operation, police said.
Over the course of several months, the East Central Narcotics Task Force initiated an investigation into a "narcotics trafficker" operating in Vernon, according to case records. Investigators determined that Moriarty was distributing cocaine from the residence, according to case records.

Subsequently, the task force, in cooperation with the Vernon Police Department Detective Division and the federal Drug Enforcement Administration, executed multiple search and seizure warrants on Moriarty, according to an arrest report.
During the raid, investigators discovered more than 120 grams of cocaine, more than $25,000 in U.S. currency, and a variety of materials associated with a drug manufacturing and a distribution operation, according to an arrest report.
Moriarty is already a convicted felon in a Tolland County drug case. In 2022, he received a two-year sentence after a guilty plea for the sale of a narcotic substance. The case stemmed from a state police Troop C arrest 11 months earlier.
