Woman With Kids In Car Facing DUI Charge In Vernon I-84 Hit-And-Run

State police said they tracked down a potential drunken driver transporting young children several miles from a crash scene.

VERNON, CT — A Christmas Day hit-and-run crash on Interstate 84 in Vernon left a Massachusetts woman transporting young children with a drunken driving charge, state police said.

She was tracked down several miles from the initial accident scene, state police said.

State police release a report on the incident Friday.

At about 6:45 p.m. Wednesday, state police responded to a crash on I-84 eastbound between exits 66 and 67 in Vernon. A vehicle had been hit by a purple Honda Accord that failed to stop and continued eastbound on I-84, according to an incident report.

Troopers located the Honda on I-84 prior to exit 72, according to state police. The woman behind the wheel was was driving erratically and failed to maintain her lane as Troopers caught up to the car, according to an incident report.

The Honda was stopped and the the driver was identified as Pheak Si 40, of Lowell, MA. The vehicle was also occupied by another and two children — a two-year-old and a seven-month-old, an incident report indicates. After briefly speaking with Si, Troopers suspected her to be under the influence and she failed subsequent sobriety tests, according to an incident report. Si was then arrested and transported to Troop C for processing, state police said.

Si was charged with:

  • Driving under the influence
  • Failure to maintain the proper lane
  • Evading responsibility at a motor vehicle collision
  • Risk of injury to a child (two counts)

Si was later released on a $1,000 bond and scheduled to appear in Rockville Superior Court on Jan. 8, records show.
