2 Garages, Vehicle Significantly Damaged In Fire In Wallingford

Officials credited a good Samaritan with calling 911 and alerting the occupants after seeing the fire while leaving work around 4:15 a.m.

WALLINGFORD, CT — Two garages and a vehicle were significantly damaged in a fire early Wednesday morning in Wallingford, according to officials.

Firefighters responded around 4:15 a.m. on Sept. 24 to a report of a fire on Washington Street.

Arriving units found a fully involved fire in a detached garage, according to a news release from the Wallingford Fire Department.

“The fire spread to an adjacent garage where it also ignited a vehicle,” officials wrote in the news release. “The fire was confined to those two detached garages, and both structures sustained substantial damage. An additional vehicle and both houses also received radiant heat damage.”

Officials said they later learned that a worker from Amazon saw “smoke and flames when leaving work and investigated the source.”

“She called in the fire and also alerted the occupants,” officials wrote. “We are grateful for the quick action of this good Samaritan. Thankfully, there were no injuries at this incident.”

Wallingford Fire units were commanded by Battalion Chief Robert Colangelo.

The following units responded: Engine 1, Engine 2, Engine 3, Truck 1, Engine 7, Engine 8, Car 1, Car 3, and Car 4, according to officials.

Officials said the fire is being investigated by the Office of the Fire Marshal is investigating the fire. Wallingford Electric and the Wallingford Building Department also assisted.

“Mutual aid at the scene came from Meriden Fire, and North Haven Fire also assisted by sending an engine for standby coverage,” officials wrote.
