WALLINGFORD, CT — A Wallingford police officer was hospitalized after being assaulted by an intoxicated man who was causing a disturbance at On-Trak Karting on Wednesday night, according to police.

Police responded around 7:30 p.m. on Aug. 27 to On-Trak Karting at 984 North Colony Rd. in Wallingford to an emergency complaint about an intoxicated person “arguing with employees and behaving aggressively toward patrons,” according to Wallingford Police Chief John Ventura.

Ventura said arriving officers found 28-year-old Tevin Robles, who “initially charged at the responding officer's cruiser.”

Robles, who is currently on probation, was “uncooperative with the officers” and tried to leave the scene while they were speaking to him, according to Ventura.

“As the officers tried to gain control of the situation, Robles continued to resist and physically struggled with them,” Ventura wrote in a news release. “During this struggle, a Wallingford officer sustained a broken tibia and fibula and had to be transported to the hospital where surgery was required to repair the injury.

“Robles remained uncooperative and caused further damage by kicking out the window frame of the police cruiser’s prisoner compartment.

Robles was eventually taken to the Wallingford Police Department for processing, where he “continued his noncompliance,” according to Ventura.

Robles was charged with assault on public safety personnel, four counts of interfering with an officer, second-degree breach of peace, and first-degree criminal mischief. He was held in lieu of a $150,000 bond with a court date of Sept. 16.
