New Deputy Fire Chief Appointed In Wallingford

Wallingford Fire Chief James Buck said the department received interest from a large pool of candidates for the position.

WALLINGFORD, CT — Fire Lt. Keith Schafer has been promoted to deputy chief, Wallingford Fire Chief James Buck announced Friday.

Buck said Schafer was selected from a large pool of candidates, following resume reviews, two panels, many interview questions, and a presentation by each finalist.

“Lieutenant Schafer’s impressive resume, many years of service to the Town and the Department, and big picture approach will serve the Department well,” Buck wrote in a memo to the department.

In his new role, Buck said Schafer will be responsible for multiple areas, most notably as the Chief Medical Officer for the Department. He will also be responsible for training, according to Buck.

Schafer’s promotion is expected to be effective July 3.

“We value the commitment so many of you make on a daily basis, and we are very excited to see the future progression of more members within the Department,” Buck wrote.
