Obituary: Robert M. Montag, 84, of Wallingford

Robert proudly served the Co "L" 102nd Infantry Connecticut National Guard, was a dedicated truck driver and member of Teamsters Local 443.

WALLINGFORD, CT - (From Wallingford Funeral Home) Robert M. Montag, 84, of Wallingford, passed away on Monday, May 2, 2022 at Skyview Center. Born in Hartford on May 30, 1937, he was a son of the late Louis and Elizabeth (McGrath) Montag.

Bob grew up in both Middletown and Meriden; he graduated from Meriden High School.

He was a member of Co “L” 102nd Infantry Connecticut National Guard, as well as 143rd Tk Bn and 169th Combat Support Co.

He worked as a truck driver for construction companies in North Haven and was a member of Teamsters Local 443 in New Haven.

Bob enjoyed skiing in the wintertime both in VT and CO. He was a fan of NASCAR and the Washington Redskins.

He enjoyed going to many races and football games and ran charter buses to these events as well as to the German Festival in Hunter Mountain, NY.

He frequented the German Club, Meriden Turner Society and made daily visits to Plunske’s Garage to talk about the old days as well as current events with old friends.

Bob is survived by his sister, Miriam of Rhode Island and his brother, Bill of Colorado as well as nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends.

To honor Bob’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. Arrangements are under the direction of The Wallingford Funeral Home.
