Occupation:

Lawyer (graduated law school May 2025)

Family:
Unmarried, no kids

Does anyone in your family work in politics or government?
No

Previous public office, appointive or elective:
I have been on the Board of Education since the 2021 election.

Why are you seeking this office?
I have been on the Board for four years, and I find it incredibly rewarding to work across the political aisle to do what is best for students. I enjoy serving my hometown, and I see there is more work to be done.

The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is ____, and this is what I intend to do about it:
Helping our students become well-rounded individuals. We have social emotional learning built into our curriculum. Our teachers work with students individually and use data to assess individual students' strengths and weaknesses. We have college visits and career prep classes for a variety of fields, including four-year school, trades, etc.

What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?
My favorite part of the job is working collectively with the other board members, as our different experiences make us a good team. My experience includes living in Wallingford my whole life and being active with several organizations in town, including GLOW Food Ministry, Wallingford Works for Housing, Wallingford Magazine, Coalition for a Better Wallingford, United Way, and YMCA.

What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?
We need to continue working on One New Wallingford High School. I look forward to having a single state-of-the-art building for students. In addition to it being a beautiful building, it will enable us to offer more classes, sports teams, etc. that cannot be currently offered in a two high school model. Additionally, building one new high school is cheaper than renovating two existing buildings, and maintaining one school will be cheaper than maintaining two schools.

What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
I have consistently worked with my eight fellow board members to accomplish good things for students. We have developed long-range facilities plans, dealt with difficult budget decisions, revised policy, etc.

What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?
In every decision, just do what is best for students.

Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
Please feel free to contact me at any time at doeringforboard@gmail.com or on any major social media @DoeringforBoard. I am happy to discuss matters via email and/or set up a mutually convenient time for a phone call.
