“During the September 9th Wallingford Town Council meeting, in response to a question about a lawsuit related to my private legal practice, I stated that I was not aware of the lawsuit,” Cervoni wrote in the post on Facebook. “That statement was true and accurate at that time. Despite what is reflected in the court’s record, I did not receive personal notice or service of the lawsuit. Rather, my attorney accepted service on my behalf and has been exclusively managing the lawsuit while I remain focused on the town’s business.
“Attorney Richard Lord of Litchfield Cavo is available to confirm these facts.
“With regard to allegations made in any lawsuit, every American has the right to make allegations in court and then has the burden to prove each one. Similarly, every defendant is entitled to defend against every allegation.
“As a rule, it is not appropriate to comment on the substance of any pending litigation. However, it is important to state that I have complete trust in the legal system and look forward to the resolution of this matter.”
