Wallingford Resident Earns LEC Rookie Of The Week Honors

The Sheehan graduate has been named the Little East Conference's Rookie of the Week, officials announced.

WALLINGFORD, CT — Wallingford’s Liv Cassesse, a freshman on the Eastern Connecticut State University women’s basketball team, was named the Little East Conference’s Rookie of the Week, officials announced.

It was the first career LEC weekly honor for Cassesse, a Sheehan graduate.

The 5-foot-5-inch point guard helped the Warriors (7-9, 6-1 LEC) to their first three-game winning streak of the season – all against conference competition -- by averaging 14.7 points and 9.0 rebounds with eight total 3-point field goals.

Cassesse shot 47.1 percent from 3-point range (8-of-17) and 75 percent (6-of-8) from the foul line and also had seven assists. Against Keene, Cassesse had a season-high 19 points with nine rebounds and three assists and was 7-of-12 from the floor and 5-of-7 from 3-point range.

Two days later, she set a new season high with 20 points by going 6-of-13 from the floor, 3-of-4 from distance and 5-of-6 from the stripe.

Cassesse closed out the week against Plymouth State University with her fifth double-digit rebound game (10) of the season.

In 16 starts this year, Cassesse is second in the Little East Conference in assists (3.1), third in free throw percentage (82.0) and ninth in rebounding (7.0). She is averaging 34 minutes and 8.7 points with a FT percentage of 82.0, leads the team with 22 steals and is second on the team with 14 3-pointers.

Five times, she has led or shared the team lead in rebounding, with a season-high 11 coming in the fourth game of the year Nov. 19 against visiting Western New England University. Her season-high assist total of seven came in the third game of the year Nov. 16 against Springfield College at the Trinity College Invitational and her season-high steal total came Jan. 8 against visiting Western Connecticut.
