WALLINGFORD, CT — A Wallingford resident’s Make-A-Wish was granted with a virtual shopping spree, according to officials from Make-A-Wish Connecticut.

Joshua Lecours, 19, is an extremely social and an all-around happy guy, who loves spending time with his family and friends, dancing and is a huge Disney fan.

Alongside a respiratory disorder, Joshua has Down syndrome, making it difficult to communicate without assistance from his mother, according to a news release. He can form one-word sentences and loves expressing himself through pictures.

“Joshua’s wish was extremely important to him, and he took the decision-making process very seriously,” according to a news release from Make-A-Wish Connecticut. “When Joshua was asked about his one heartfelt wish, he had no trouble coming up with many ideas. To celebrate his many interests – including Disney - a virtual shopping spree proved to be the perfect wish for him.

“Joshua was all smiles when his wish was granted. The East Wallingford Volunteer Fire Department surprised Joshua and his family with items he chose during a virtual shopping spree, including a swing set, bedroom decor, various Disney toys, technology, a new bicycle, and so much more! Although he is a young man of few words, Joshua exclaimed ‘wow!’ and ‘cool!’ while meeting firefighters from the East Wallingford Volunteer Fire Department and opening gifts.”

The impact of Joshua’s wish was felt both at the family’s home as well as throughout the Wallingford community. To show their support, East Side Pizza, a local Wallingford restaurant, donated pizza to the family for a pizza party and a town resident assembled Joshua’s new bike.

“We had a lot of fun and it was a great day for Josh,” Joshua’s mother said. “We’re grateful for everything.”
