1 Killed In I-395 Crash In Waterford, ID Released: State PD

Two vehicles were involved in this crash and state police said one person has died, while another suffered injuries.

A Danielson man, David R. McElroy, 52, of Wauregan Road, was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 395 on Friday afternoon, state police said. A Waterford resident suffered minor injuries in the crash.

WATERFORD, CT β€” A Danielson man, David R. McElroy, 52, of Wauregan Road, was killed in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 395 on Friday afternoon, state police said. A Waterford resident suffered minor injuries in the crash.

At 12:47 p.m. Friday, the Waterford man was traveling northbound on the Interstate 395 Exit 5 on-ramp, approximately a half-mile south of I-395, in Waterford, in the right lane of two, state police said.

McElroy was traveling behind the first vehicle, which "had slowed, almost coming to a stop due to traffic ahead," state police said.

"Vehicle #2 failed to stop and collided with the rear of Vehicle #1," state police said in an accident summary. "As a result of the collision, Vehicle #1 began to spin, coming to an uncontrolled final rest in the center median of the Interstate 395 Exit 5 on-ramp, facing southbound. Vehicle #2 continued northbound, coming to an uncontrolled final rest in the right shoulder of the Interstate 395 Exit 5 on-ramp."

"Operator #1 sustained a head laceration and complained of severe back (pain) and was transported by Waterford Ambulance to Backus Hospital in Norwich," state police said in its accident summary. "Operator #2 sustained facial and torso lacerations and was transported to Backus Hospital in Norwich. Operator #2 was later presumed deceased at Backus Hospital."
