Beware of Contractors With No Seal of Approval

Waterford Police say an unlicensed contractor is offering driveway sealing in the area. They urge people not to hire any contractor who doesn't have a license, insurance, or references.

The Waterford Police Department posted a warning on its Facebook page about an unlicensed "contractor" offering pavement sealing in the Waterford area.Β

Police say anΒ elderly woman contacted them after a young man knocked on her door offering to seal her driveway. He claimed to haveΒ material leftover from another sealing jobΒ he had just completed down the road. The womanΒ told police the manΒ was not dressed for such a job and when she refused to take his card, he threw a few in her driveway. She later scouted the neighborhood and saw no signs that any driveway work had been done nearby.Β

Waterford Police took one of the cards, which bears the name "Seal Rite,"Β andΒ checked with the State of Connecticut Department of Consumer Protection. Police sayΒ thisΒ company does not have a license with the State of Connecticut. Β

For your own protection, pleaseΒ checkΒ that anyΒ contractor you hireΒ has a license, insurance, and references before youΒ sign a contract and don't have work done without a contact in hand. Β
