Looking to Invest? A New Branch Of Charles Schwab Brokerage Firm Now Open In Mystic Serves Waterford Too
Charles Schwab is now opening franchise operations to serve local residents. The new Mystic branch offers a number of free investing workshops in July and August.

A Press Release From Charles Schwab & Co.
Charles Schwab & Co., Inc., a full-service brokerage firm, announced the opening of a new independent branch on Thursday, May 23, at 4 Holmes Street, Suite B, in Mystic. Schwab’s Mystic branch will also serve the neighboring towns of Waterford, Quaker Hill, Westerly, New London, Gales Ferry, Ledyard, Groton, Stonington, North Stonington, Pawcatuck, and Fishers Island.
It offers investors local access to a full suite of investing and personal finance guidance, tools and products. The new Mystic location is part of a larger franchising initiative Schwab announced in early 2011. Schwab’s decision to begin opening franchise branches, in addition to its more than 300 existing company-managed branches, is grounded in a commitment to make financial advice and guidance more accessible in local communities across the country. Schwab’s company-managed and independent branches deliver the same suite of investment products and services, pricing, and overall client service and experience.
The Mystic branch is led by Schwab Independent Branch Leader Russ Burgess, a financial services professional with more than 20 years of experience. Prior to joining Schwab’s independent branch network, Burgess was a portfolio manager and Director of Investments at The Washington Trust Company where he chaired the Asset Allocation and Manager Research Committees. Burgess started in the financial services industry in 1993 at Donaldson Lufkin and Jenrette in Boston.
“Through my conversations with clients, I’ve seen first-hand how important it is for people to have local access to actionable investing help and guidance that makes sense for their specific financial goals,” said Burgess. “Since its founding, Schwab has been an advocate for the individual investor, and I’m proud to be the face of Schwab in Mystic and the surrounding communities.”
Burgess earned a bachelor’s degree in economics from the University of Vermont and attended the New England School of Banking when he joined the Washington Trust Company in 2000. He lives with his wife and three daughters in Mystic. In his spare time, he serves on the board of the Stonington Community Center and enjoys tennis, biking and being on the water.
