School Daze Ahead, Hold Your Breath Today

Five things to help you plan your day in Waterford on Wednesday, August 21, 2013.

1. The National Weather Service has issued an air quality alert for Southern New London County through 10 p.m. today. Ground level ozone may approach or exceed unhealthy standards, which means that people with asthma may have a harder time breathing today. There's also a high pollen alert today through Friday, so if you're sneezing and your eyes are itching, that's why.

2. The air may not be good but the weather forecast is great today. Weather.com is predicting a high of 87 degrees under mostly clear and sunny skies. Tonight will be partly cloudy with a low of 68 degrees and just a 10 percent chance of rain.

3. If you've got children entering the Waterford Elementary schools, today is the day to register at Great Neck School, Oswegatchie School, and Quaker Hill School will be registering new students from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Here's what you'll need to bring with you.

4. Want to know how early you'll have to set your alarm to make sure the kids get on the bus in time? We've got all the bus schedules right here on Patch!

5. It's a great night to catch a concert outdoors at Waterford Beach Park. This evening features country music by Southern Voice. Next Wednesday will be the final concert of the season, and we're going out on a tropical breeze with the Caribbean sounds of Steel Dream. Don't forget to bring the kids, bring a picnic, but leave the dog at home, please. No dogs are allowed at the park or the beach during the summer season.
