Waterford Pitcher To Play In the Under Armour All-American Baseball Game

Waterford's Willie Rios, a left-handed pitcher from St. Bernard  High School, has been selected to play in the 2013 Under Armour® All-America Baseball Game, a High School Showcase.

The game will be played at Chicago's Wrigley Field on Saturday, August 24 at 1:30 p.m. CST and air live nationally on MLB Network. The Under Armour All-America Baseball Game showcases 36 of the best high school players, competing in an American vs. National team match-up.  The players are selected by a committee of Baseball Factory scouts.

An athletic LHP, Rios has a repeatable delivery and clean arm action. He pounds the strike zone with a three-pitch mix of fastball, curve and change. His fastball normally sits around 90, though he can creep into the mid-90s when needed. Willie is committed to the University of Maryland.

“With a mix of pitches that includes a fastball, curve and change, Willie has impressed our scouting staff and we are excited to see him compete at the Under Armour All-America Game this summer,” said Steve Bernhardt, Chairman of the Under Armour All-America Game Selection Committee and Executive VP of Baseball Operations at Baseball Factory. “A talented left-handed pitcher, he will be one to watch on the mound at Wrigley Field.”

The Under Armour All-America Baseball Game is the culmination of a four-day baseball celebration, including a formal workout for Major League Baseball (MLB) scouts and a homerun derby.

Over the past five years, 118 of the 138 draft eligible players from the Under Armour All-America Game were selected in the MLB Amateur Draft including 34 first round picks.
