Waterford South 11/12's Advance To District 10 Championship!
It was a "miraculous finish" for the Waterford team.

By Michael Landon
Behind the incredible/stellar pitching of both the Mystic 11/12 ALLSTARS and the Waterford South (Dylan Bosco) 11/12 ALLSTARS , Waterford South was trailing 2-1 going into the sixth inning.
With only three outs remaining, Waterford South needed 1 run to tie the game or back their bags for the season. But ... Waterford South was faced with a dilemma: due to Playoff Rules if you have thirteen or more players on your roster everyone must bat at least once.
Well the game was so intense that three of the four non-starters had yet to bat, so as a minimum the first three batters of the top of the sixth inning would have to be the remaining non-starters.
As luck would have it the first two strike out which brought up the third one with only one out left. Nathan Landon came up to the plate looking extremely confident, he looked at the first pitch though it looked outside the umpire called strike one. The second pitch was a ball, the third Nathan fouled off for strike two.
With only one strike left, Nathan doubled to right, the crowd went ballistic. They pitched ran (Jay Jay Brennan) for Nathan. The next batter (Liam Spellman) hit a hard grounder up the middle allowing Waterford to score the tying run from second.
The very next batter struck out.
Relief pitcher Nick Porazzi was able to get the job done in the bottom of the sixth without allowing a run to score. Into extra innings we go.
Peter Turello and Eric Pinch produced RBI singles in the top of the seventh, now a 4-2 advantage for Waterford South.
Mystic being the home team would now come up to bat in the bottom of the seventh. Once again relief pitcher Nick Porazzi pitched the bottom of the seventh without letting in a run but this time with the help/assistance of a strong defensive effort and Waterford South "miraculously" won the game.
These kids (all 13 Waterford South players) were determined to play on and with heads held high now advance themselves to the District 10 Finals.
They will play the winner of other semi-final game between Pawcatuck/NS and East Lyme.
Mystics' Jason Kilcoyne and Adam Gibbs both had doubles for Mystic. Tremendous game, Mystic, well done and well battled!
Best of luck, Waterford 11/12 ALLSTARS in the Finals!
