"Multiple hand lines were put in operation while efforts to confirm the residence was unoccupied were started," wrote WHFD Chief Greg H. Priest in a statement.
Priest said one adult did suffer burns attempting to put out the fire before firefighters arrived.
"The occupant was treated at the scene by a West Hartford firefighter/paramedic and subsequently transported to an area hospital with the paramedic and American Medical Response," Priest said.
Priest said the condition of the victim is unknown, but the victim is believed to be suffering from non-life-threatening injuries.
By 10:57 p.m., the WHFD said much of the fire was out as firefighters completed their operation.
The West Hartford Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the fire's cause.
Meanwhile, the West Hartford Building Official’s Office is involved, and Priest said the house "will not be reoccupied due to the significant fire, smoke, and water damage."
The Red Cross is helping three adults who were impacted by the fire, according to Red Cross officials.
No injuries to fire personnel were reported, according to the WHFD.
"West Hartford Fire would like to wish the injured party our best wishes for a speedy recovery," Priest said.
" We would also like to thank our dispatchers, the WH Police Department, the Hartford Fire Department, Newington Fire, UConn Fire, and AMR who assisted at the scene, or by covering the Town while our units were committed to the fire."
