2 Men Charged In String Of Robberies: West Hartford PD
West Hartford police arrested Angel Maldonado, 29, and Luis Serrano, 28, at the Travel Inn Motel on Weston Street in Hartford on Wednesday.
WEST HARTFORD, CT — West Hartford police have arrested two men in connection with a string of robberies and thefts throughout town. The pair, Angel Maldonado, 29, and Luis Serrano, 28, were taken into custody Wednesday.
According to police, during the crimes, numerous pairs of designer sunglasses were stolen from multiple businesses, sometimes by force against employees.
Police were able to develop information that 29-year-old Angel Maldonado was a suspect in 12 of the cases in West Hartford as well as Newington, Wethersfield, Bristol, Hartford and Avon.

Officers also identified an accomplice, Serrano, in three of the robberies in West Hartford. Police said he is also being investigated for his involvement in similar incidents in Newington, Wethersfield, Bristol, Hartford and Avon.


Police were successful in obtaining 10 arrest warrants in conjunction with thefts and robberies that occurred in West Hartford on Wednesday.

On Thursday, members of the West Hartford Detective Division and the Community Support Unit located Maldonado and Serrano at the Travel Inn Motel on Weston Street in Hartford.
- 1 count of Larceny in the Second Degree
- 1 count of Conspiracy to Commit Larceny in the Second Degree
- 3 counts of Robbery in the Third Degree
- 3 counts of Conspiracy to Commit Robbery in the Third Degree
- 2 counts of Larceny in the Third Degree
- 2 counts of Conspiracy to Commit Larceny in the Third Degree
- 2 counts of Organized Retail Theft
Maldonado is being held on a $225,000 court set surety bond. Additional warrants for two subsequent incidents involving Maldonado are pending, police said.
According to police, Serrano was arrested on an active federal narcotics arrest warrant and had an active arrest warrant out of the Meriden Police Department. Serrano will be released to federal custody.
Police said arrest warrants for Serrano’s involvement in the West Hartford incidents and other towns are forthcoming.
