Donations Sought For West Hartford's America 250 Events
West Hartford is hoping to raise $10,000 by Friday, July 11, to meet its goal as it plans local events for the country's 250th birthday.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — Anyone alive in 1976 remembers the festive atmosphere surrounding the nation's 200th birthday.
Next year, the U.S. is celebrating another milestone birthday, and West Hartford is hoping a fundraising blitz this week will create equally memorable USA birthday experiences locally.

"Over the next year, the West Hartford 250 Task Force will create educational and cultural opportunities that explore the many facets of the American experience from the perspective of our community," wrote the town in an announcement.
"We’ll host conversations, programs, and special events that reflect who we are and highlight West Hartford’s important role within Connecticut and the nation."

That ambitious project, though, requires funding to do so.
Through the Connecticut Humanities Council, cities and towns have the opportunity to raise funds during a 250-hour period that runs from July 1 to July 11, which is this Friday.
As of Wednesday, the effort had raised $3,454 en route to a $10,000 goal, so folks and organizations have a bit of work to do.
