Firefighters stated that the smoke alarms did not activate during the early morning fire.

HARTFORD, CT — City firefighters said the smoke alarms at one Hartford apartment building didn't activate during a blaze Christmas morning that displaced two families.

According to the Hartford Fire Department, responders were called to 66 Webster St. at about 2:56 a.m. on Christmas Day, Thursday.

They were called for reports of smoke coming from a window, the HFD said.

The HFD said building fire alarms had not activated prior to arrival.

"Once the fire was located, fire personnel activated the alarm system to facilitate evacuation," fire officials said.

Three hoselines were stretched, with two placed into service.

Crews achieved a quick knockdown of the fire, which was confined to a second-floor bedroom, the HFD said.

No civilian or firefighter injuries reported.

As a result of the fire, two families were displaced, totaling seven residents (five adults, two children).
