Teens Can Train Like A Firefighter At Unique West Hartford Camp
The program is designed for teens aged 13-17, and it gives them an inside look at becoming a firefighter.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — The town's fire department is hosting a unique summer program for teens that just might help it grow its ranks in the future.
The West Hartford Fire Department is seeking registrants for its one-week, full-day (9 a.m. to 3 p.m.) summer program.

The West Hartford Summer Fire Academy, which is administered by the West Hartford Department of Leisure Services, is designed for kids ages 13-17 with an interest in this type of career.
Cadets will experience a week in the life of a professional firefighter/paramedic.

There will be daily morning workouts followed by introductions to the use and wearing of various pieces of equipment, working with a fire hose, and navigating through tight and smoky environments, among other features.
The entire program will be at the Newington fire tower.
Participants can register today for Fire Academy Basics (June 28 to Aug. 1 ) or Fire Academy Advanced Skills (Aug. 4-8).
Students often go to both camps back-to-back, but participants must complete a week of Basic Skills BEFORE doing the Advanced Skills session. Questions? Email ecc@westhartfordct.gov.
