West Hartford Councilor Announces Run For State Office
The Democrat is hoping to fill a seat that will be vacated by an incumbent seeking a congressional seat this year.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — With one West Hartford state representative running for Congress, a West Hartford council person is looking to take her place.
West Hartford Town Councilor Tiffani McGinnis recently announced intentions to seek the 18th House District seat being vacated by incumbent state Rep. Jillian Gilchrest, D-West Hartford.
Gilchrest is one of a few Democrats looking to oust longtime U.S. Rep. John Larson, D-1st District, from his seat.

McGinnis is looking to serve the 18th House, which is comprised of a part of West Hartford only.
As a Democrat in a traditionally Democratic town, McGinnis has a steep advantage in a district where Gilchrest ran unopposed the past two terms (2022 and 2024).

McGinnis was appointed to the town council in 2023 to fill a vacancy and subsequently won council terms in 2023 and 2025.
“As a town councilor, I’ve seen firsthand how decisions made at the state level shape our everyday lives,” McGinnis said in a statement. “After careful consideration, I’m excited to announce my campaign for state representative so I can bring my practical, people-first approach to Hartford.”
“If elected, one of my most important roles will be as an advocate for the 18th district and West Hartford, working to ensure we receive our fair share of funding for education, infrastructure, public safety, and other services families rely on every day.” McGinnis continued.
She and her husband, Matthew, have lived in West Hartford for over 10 years and have three adult children.
Before joining the West Hartford Town Council, she served as vice chair of the West Hartford Democratic Town Committee, campaign treasurer for Lt. Gov. Susan Bysiewicz, campaign organizer for Biden/Harris, and campaign manager for state legislative and municipal leaders.
“Those experiences, combined with my degree in healthcare administration, small business ownership, and public service, give me a well-rounded perspective that I think will benefit the residents of the 18th District,” McGinnis added.
“In the weeks and months ahead, I look forward to meeting with residents and hearing directly from them about the issues that matter most to their families and neighborhoods.”
