A Sunday morning fire call ended with the best possible result for one West Hartford family.

WEST HARTFORD, CT — A fast response by local firefighters Sunday morning likely saved a home for folks living in one West Hartford neighborhood.

According to the West Hartford Fire Department, at about 8:35 a.m. Sunday units were called to a single-family residence on Fernbel Lane after receiving multiple 911 calls.

Those calls indicated fire on the exterior of the building, prompting local firefighters and the West Hartford Police Department to rush to the scene.

As firefighters attacked the blaze, mutual aid companies from the University of Connecticut, New Britain and Newington fire departments covered for West Hartford.

The WHFD said West Hartford firefighters advanced an attack line and quickly extinguished the fire.

"Additional crews were assigned to search the building and check for extension to the interior of the house," wrote the WHFD. "Interior crews found a minor extension into a bathroom and attic area. Searches confirmed all residents were out of the building."

Still, the West Hartford Building Official’s Office was able to state that the single-family home could be reoccupied by the residents, and the incident was declared under control at 9:04 a.m.

The West Hartford Fire Marshal’s office is investigating the fire's cause and no injuries were sustained by residents or fire personnel.

"West Hartford Fire would like to thank our dispatchers, the WH Police Department, the UConn, New Britain, Newington Fire Departments, and AMR who assisted by covering the Town while our units were committed to the fire," said WHFD Deputy Chief John J. Sokolowski in a release.
