[Updated] Road Conditions Slushy, West Hartford Public Schools Have Two-Hour Delayed Opening

Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 11 a.m., and snow and sleet have made roads in town and throughout the area very slippery.

[Update] 6:35 a.m.

According to Director of Public Works John Phillips, approximately 2-3 inches of snow/sleet fell overnight around town.

Public Works crews, along with a few contractors, are continuing to clear the roads and Phillips said in an email, "We expect conditions to rapidly improve once the sun raises as temperatures are right around freezing and expected to rise above later this morning."

Phillips advises drivers to take their time in the "slushy mess." Highways in the area are also slushy, he said, but the increased traffic of commuters will help mix the slush with the de-icing material and cause conditions to improve.

"With a two-hour delay for the school system we do not expect any major concerns with this storm. I’ll call it a 'moderate impact' this morning. Have a great day West Hartford," Phillips said.

"It’s safe to say this will be our last 'winter' storm of the season," he said, since spring arrives at 7:05 a.m. Wednesday.

The MDC has advised that its recreational facilities, including the Farmington Ave. Reservoir and Reservoir #6 on Albany Ave. are closed at this time.
