West Hartford Students Win National Merit Scholarships
The three students are among 2,600 high school seniors nationwide who were awarded college-sponsored scholarships through the program.
WEST HARTFORD, CT — The National Merit Scholarship Corporation has announced its third round of 2022 scholarship winners, and three West Hartford students made the list.
Students included in this round were chosen by officials at the college or university they plan to attend, and were picked from a list of 2022 National Merit Scholarship finalists who have enrolled in their institution.
The recipients from West Hartford are:

- David C. Gardner, a student at Hall High School who plans to study engineering in college, received a National Merit Boston University Scholarship
- Emma Y. Kingwell, a student at Hall High School who plans to study medicine in college, received a National Merit Emory University Scholarship
- Alexander Q. Rosenthal, a student at Conard High School who plans to study aerospace engineering in college, received a National Merit Boston University Scholarship
Though officials didn't specify the amount of money each student will receive, the awards provide between $500 and $2,000 annually for up to four years of undergraduate study at the school offering the scholarship.
The corporation's first round of winners — who received corporate-sponsored Merit Scholarship awards — was announced on April 27. A second round was announced on May 15, and a Hall High School student was among that group of recipients as well.

The third and final round of Merit Scholarship winners — who will also be recipients of college-sponsored awards — will be announced on July 11.
