Obituary: Anita Marie Cancel, 58, of West Haven

Anita was known as strong-willed, tough, sweet and very passionate about her family. She loved cooking, dancing, music and the Yankees.

WEST HAVEN, CT - (From Hamden Memorial Funeral Home) Anita Marie Cancel, 58, of West Haven, suddenly passed away in her home Tuesday, July 6, 2021.

Anita was predeceased by her father, Angel (Mario) Cancel, Sr., mother, Ann M. Gentile, daughter, Desiree (Dez) Manley, and nephew, Anthony Cancel-Vecchio.

She leaves behind her beloved Daughter Ann (Annie) Manley.

She is also survived by her Stepfather Louis Gentile, her brothers: Mario, Michael, Jeffery, Pasquale, and Jason Cancel, her sisters, Annie (in Puerto Rico), Marjorie, and Michelle Cancel, her grandchildren, Thomas (Tj) and Jah’lil Edwards, and Kayden Benton.

As well as her nieces and nephews: Tiffany, Alana, Marissa, Michael jr., and Evan Cancel. And her great niece and nephews, Gianna Menillo and Michael (Mikey) Vecchio, and Joseph Manco, Jr.

She also leaves her brother-in-law, Vincent (Vinny) Vecchio, and sister-in-laws, Kimberly (Kim) Harwood-Cancel and Justine Ford-Cancel, and many other friends and family.

Anita was born on September 27, 1962 in New Haven, CT. She was strong willed and tough, but very sweet and so passionate about her family.

Anita was proud to be a grandmother to her wonderful grandson’s. She was known for her awesome cooking skills, and her love for music and dancing. Anita was a loyal New York Yankees fan and loved the Miami Dolphins (only because of her favorite player, back in the day, Dan Marino).

She enjoyed the simple things in life, and her laughter was so contagious!

Anita will be severely missed and remembered by anyone who’s heart she’s touched. Although we hurt for her, she is in heaven with The Lord and our loved ones that have left us before her.

A wake will be held on Friday, July 16th, 2021 at Hamden Memorial Funeral Home, 1300 Dixwell Avenue, Hamden, CT.

The wake will go on from 11am-2pm.
