WEST HAVEN, CT — When times are tough, heroes emerge. We all know someone who's making a difference right now as we live through unprecedented and changing times.
Here at Patch, we've launched an initiative to help recognize these heroes making a difference in their communities. Together with Ring, we're working to let all your neighbors know about these outstanding people and their stories.
The latest honoree is Kate Oakley, who was nominated by both Catherine McMullins and Frankie Richards. She started the Survivor Project and gives to many charities.

Reason for recognition: She never has a lot but gives to so many charities, gives abuse survivors a voice and support, recently helped a dying 3-year-old get better, she is a secret angel. She hugs strangers. Always helping others and giving. Did special for prom and grads.

Reason for recognition: Years ago she started the Survivor Project to bring recognition and a voice to those who suffered trauma and help others. When West Haven went into lock down she would pay for people's groceries at Stop & Shop. She helped a dying 3-year-old and several charities.
