West Haven Police K9 Tracks Motorist Accused Of Leaving Crash Scene: PD

A local resident is facing multiple charges, according to police.

WEST HAVEN, CT — A police dog named Gamble is being credited with tracking down a motorist who fled an accident scene last week, according to police.

Injuries were reported in the Dec. 11 crash, which happened around 8 a.m. on Derby Avenue, police said.

Prior to police’s arrival, a female involved in the accident walked away from the scene, according to police. Officers got a description from a witness, and the K9 team began tracking the female. Gamble led police to a nearby neighborhood and residence, where officers saw a woman matching the description.

An investigation showed the woman was the operator involved in the accident, according to police.

Police charged the woman, Amanda Quirk, 37, of West Haven, with evading responsibility, operating an uninsured motor vehicle, operating an unregistered motor vehicle, improper use of license plates, operating with a suspended license, and possession of a controlled substance.

Quirk was processed and taken to Superior Court in Milford. She is next due in court on Jan. 30.
