2 Students Arrested After Sending School Into Lockdown: West Haven PD

Police said a student brought a plastic facsimile handgun into the school, which was taken by another student, and led to a lockdown.

WEST HAVEN, CT — Two West Haven High School students were arrested after sending the school into a lockdown Friday morning, police said in an update.

Police said a student “illegally brought a plastic facsimile handgun into the high school and placed it down under his jacket.”

“A second student took the facsimile handgun,” police wrote in a post on Facebook. “This student was later seen holding the facsimile handgun by another student who then reported it.

“Once School Resource Officers were alerted to this incident the school was immediately placed into lockdown which initiated a massive response by emergency services. No threats were reported to the SROs in this incident, the student was only seen in possession of the facsimile handgun.

“During this investigation, it was brought to attention of staff and the police that the student with the facsimile handgun had left the school property. This student was located nearby and subsequently placed under arrest. The facsimile handgun was also located.”

Both students were taken to the West Haven Police Department where they were each charged with possession of a weapon on school grounds, carrying a dangerous weapon, and breach of peace.

Police said both juvenile students have court dates at New Haven Juvenile Court.

“There is zero tolerance in schools when it comes to students bringing or trying to bring weapons into school,” police wrote. “School is for learning and anyone who tries to disrupt that, will be prosecuted and or expelled or both.”

(Original post) WEST HAVEN, CT — A West Haven High School student was arrested after reportedly being in possession of a weapon, which temporarily put the school in a lockdown mode and eventually led to an early dismissal on Friday, according to multiple reports.

Mayor Dorinda Borer said in a post on Facebook on Friday morning that the school went into a lockdown due to a potential threat.

“Police responded immediately,” Borer wrote. “The threat is over. The students are safe. Lock down will be lifted. Official details will follow by our police department but wanted to share there is no danger to the students or staff at this time.”

WFSB 3 reports the student was apprehended off campus and was found to be in the possession of an airsoft pistol.

A school resource officer began investigating around 10 a.m. after a student reported seeing another student with what they believed was a weapon, according to NBC Connecticut.

West Haven High School followed a half-day schedule and was dismissed early on Friday, according to WFSB.
