West Haven 2024 Election Results: Winners Revealed In Key Races

The polls have closed in West Haven for the 2024 elections, and here are the latest updates on how local residents voted.

WEST HAVEN, CT — Democrat MJ Shannon defeated Republican Raymond Collins III in a tight race to replace retiring Republican Charles Ferraro in the 117th State House District, according to the New Haven Register.

The Register reported that Democrats won all contested races within West Haven.

Those races included incumbent Democrat Gary Winfield in the 10th senatorial district over Republican challenger Nyrell Moore. In the 14th senatorial district, Democrat James Maroney faced a challenge from Republican Steven Johnstone.

For state representative, Democrat William J. Heffernan III ran unopposed in the 115th District, and Democrat Trenee McGee was also unopposed in the 116th District.

Shortly after the polls closed Tuesday night, vice President Kamala Harris was announced as the winner of Connecticut's seven electoral college votes, defeating former President Donald J. Trump and three other candidates, according to the Associated Press.

Also, U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy, D-CT, won re-election and a third term in Congress, according to projections. He defeated GOP challenger Matthew M. Corey and two other candidates.

Votes are still being counted in other key races, including the U.S. House of Representatives, and the state General Assembly races.

(Original post) WEST HAVEN, CT — The polls have closed in West Haven, and now we wait for the results to come in through the night and likely into Wednesday morning for several key races.

All eyes are on the presidential race between main party candidates Vice President Kamala Harris and former President Donald J. Trump.

Beyond the presidential race, U.S. Sen. Chris Murphy, D-CT, is seeking re-election to a new six-year term and is being challenged by Matthew M. Corey, Justin C. Paglino, and Robert Finley Hyde.

Residents also voted for their local representative in the U.S. Congress, and their local state representative and senators in the General Assembly in Hartford.

Tuesday night's vote totals will also determine whether Connecticut will allow each person to vote by absentee ballot in future elections.

For President, the candidates are: Kamala Harris and Tim Walz, Democrat, Donald J. Trump and J.D. Vance, Republican, Jill Stein and Butch Ware, Green Party, Chase Oliver and Mike ter Maat, Libertarian, and Robert Kennedy Jr. and Nicole Shanahan, Petitioning candidate.

For United States Senate, the candidates are: Christopher S. Murphy, Democrat, and Matthew M. Corey, Republican. Murphy is also endorsed by the Working Families Party. Other candidates include: Justin C. Paglino, Green Party, and Robert Finley Hyde, Cheaper Gas Groceries Party.

For U.S. Congress, the candidates are: Rosa L. DeLauro, Democrat, versus Michael Massey, Republican. Massey is also endorsed by the Independent Party.

For state senate in the 10th senatorial district, the candidates are Democrat Gary Winfield (also endorsed by the Working Families Party) and Republican Nyrell Moore (also endorsed by Independent Party).

In the 14th senatorial district, the candidates are Democrat James Maroney (also endorsed by Independent Party) and Republican Steven Johnstone.

For state representative in the 115th District, Democrat William J. Heffernan III is running unopposed.

In the 116th House District, Democrat Trenee McGee is running unopposed.

In the 117th House District, the candidates are Democrat MJ Shannon (also endorsed by the Working Families Party and Independent Party) and Republican Raymond V. Collins III.

For Registrar of Voters, the candidates are Democrat Sherri Lepper and Republican Jo Ann Callegari.

Voting Details

Polls in Connecticut are open 6 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Election Day. You can use the Secretary of State’s website to find your polling place. Voters who are in line by 8 p.m. will be allowed to vote.

Connecticut also allows for Election Day registration at designated centers in each town. People must be registered by 8 p.m. in order to vote using Election Day registration.
