Does anyone in your family work in politics or government?
No
Previous public office, appointive or elective:
Former Democratic 4th District City Councilman
Former Democratic Councilman at Large
Former Democratic Board of Assessment Appeals member.
Former member West Haven Democratic Town Committee
Presently on West Haven Senior Commission
Why are you seeking this office?
I have been involved in politics since the Dunleavy Wrinn Democratic Primary in the 70's. My mother was secretary to Bob Johnson and father was Councilman for 4 terms. As Councilman in the past, I was involved in the York Street Block watch, the Dana Street Block watch, was instrumental in getting Dana Street completely redone with new drainage and new Street. Also was involved with the Wedt Haven Arts Council and West Haven For Safe Kids at the time. Presently I am a supporter of Veterans and I'm personally involved with helping Post 9422 on Spring Street and thanking Veterans everyday. If fortunate enough to win, I will just follow what I have always done in the past, follow my heart and conscience.
The single most pressing issue facing my constituents is ____, and this is what I intend to do about it:
High Taxes...Intend to show that revenue can be generated from within without raising taxes or even using eminent domain. Presently we are working on the Save Quigley Stadium Initiative and will detail how to raise revenue without borrowing, bonding or searching for grants.
What are the major differences between you and the other candidates seeking this post?
My opponent has always been a gentleman and has brought the same to the District. We are generally 2 concerned individuals who are running for the same position each in each other's way. I feel that 1 main difference if my ability to think outside the box. Being a local business owner, it is not easy to survive in this day and age, so sometimes it takes a different approach to solve a problem. Presently, Quigley Stadium has become an issue where thinking outside the box will show how to raise revenue without impacting residents and the overall tax base.
What other issues do you intend to address during your campaign?
Every candidate has a hallmark of their tenure. Mine is, has been and will always be Veterans and their best interest in mind. Will also continue to address homelessness, innovative ways to raise revenue, make West Haven a destination, and continue where I left off 20 years ago.
What accomplishments in your past would you cite as evidence you can handle this job?
Involvement with the Dana Street Block Watch, York Street Block Watch, involvement with Public Works Director, Arthur Ferris at the time, in redoing Dana Street with new drainage and new Street. Also working side by side with my Father when he was Councilman, makes politics second nature.
What is the best advice anyone ever gave you?
My Mentor - Wayne Talamelli.
"When you start to walk, never promise something you cannot deliver just to get elected".
A great man and a true man of his word.
Is there anything else you would like voters to know about yourself and your positions?
I was born in a strict Roman Catholic Family and was educated in Catholic Educational System for 12 years in West Haven. I am also a firm believer in the Lone Ranger Creed. Either The Ten Commandments or The Lone Ranger Creed describe the type of person I am.
