West Haven Election Results 2023: Borer Claims Victory In Mayoral Race

West Haven residents have cast their votes in the 2023 municipal election in a number of key races.

WEST HAVEN, CT — Democrat Dorinda Borer has defeated Republican Barry Lee Cohen in the race for mayor in Tuesday’s municipal election, according to the New Haven Register.

Borer, currently serving as state representative for West Haven, swept all 10 voting districts, according to the Register.

The Register reports Cohen conceded the race around 8:40 p.m.

WEST HAVEN, CT — The polls have closed in West Haven and the votes are being counted to determine the winners of key races, including mayor, seats on the city council and board of education, along with city clerk, treasurer, tax collector and board of assessment appeals.

The race for mayor features Democrat Dorinda Borer and Republican Barry Lee Cohen, who is also endorsed as the Independent Party candidate. Republican Steven R. Mullins is running as a Write-In candidate.

City Council

For City Council, residents can vote for up to two At-Large candidates. The Democratic candidates are Brian Laucks and Nick Pascale. The Republican candidates are Meli Garthwait and Silvana Apicella. Colleen O’Connor is running as an Independent candidate.

The City Council district races are as follows: 1st District) Democrat Anne Heffernan and Republican Ryan Ford; 2nd District) Democrat Michelle Coletti and Republican Bonnie Posick; 3rd District) Democrat Sarah Ackbarali and Republican Nyrell Moore; 4th District) Democrat Gary Donovan and Republican Domenic Broccoli; 5th District) Democrat Edward “Mackie” McMillian and Republican Robert Wittkofske; 6th District) Democrat Dawn Callahan, Republican Dominic Konareski, and Independent Party candidate Shawn A. Brown; 7th District) Democrat Kathy Tucker and Independent Party candidate Portia Bias; 8th District) Democrat Christopher Vargo, Republican Dave Riccio Sr., and Independent Party candidate Robert John Barry; 9th District) Democrat Kathleen Mueller and Republican Jeff Christman; 10th District) Democrat Dylan Molster and Republican Steven Johnstone.

Board of Education

For Board of Education, residents can vote for up to three candidates. The Democratic candidates are: Heather Shea, Jonathan E. Jones, and Caryll “Cebi” Waterfield. The Republican candidates are: Pat Libero, Robert Sangiovanni, and Robert Guthrie.

City Clerk

The candidates for City Clerk are Democrat John Lewis and Republican Penny Sutcliffe.

Treasurer

For Treasurer, the candidates are Democrat Ronald Quagliani and Republican Patricia Bollettieri.

Tax Collector

The candidates for Tax Collector are Democrat C. Eric Murillo and Republican Justin Pratt.

Board of Assessment Appeals

For Board of Assessment Appeals, residents can vote for up to two candidates. The Democratic candidates are Suzanne Mink and Joseph Harvey. The Republican candidates are Lori Jensen and Dave Riccio Jr.
