West Haven Food Manufacturer Sold To New Jersey-Based Company: Reports

The family-owned business has been sold to another family-owned company, according to reports.

WEST HAVEN, CT — Cosmo’s Food Products, a West Haven-based specialty food manufacturer, has been sold to a New Jersey company, according to multiple reports.

The Hartford Business Journal reported Cosmo’s has been sold to Patriot Pickle, which manufactures and distributes pickles and other fermented foods to foodservice and retail customers across North America.

Financial terms of the deal involving the two family-owned companies were not disclosed, according to the Hartford Business Journal.

Cosmo’s Food Products Inc. was established in 1944 by Cosmo and Raffaela Laudano, and has been “serving Connecticut area grocers and restaurants with Cosmo Brand Antipasto Specialties, including olives and marinated vegetables and imports of the highest quality Artichoke Hearts, Peppers and Olives available,” according to a post on the Cosmo’s website.

Cosmo’s president Cosmo Laudano told Hearst Connecticut Media that he decided to sell the business after "getting a few unsolicited offers for the company."

Laudano said joining Patriot Pickle marks an “important next step” for the Cosmo’s business, and “ensures continuity” for its employees, customers, and brand, according to Hearst Connecticut Media.

Cosmo’s Food Products has “grown through the years and we are now selling our products to Food Service, Retail Distributors across the country who supply fine restaurants, caterers, Countrys Clubs, Supermarkets and Deli’s,” according to a post on its website.

“Cosmo’s Food Products use only the finest quality produce and ingredients available, along with the same family recipes passed down generation to generation,” the post reads. “Over the years the second and third generation of Laudano’s and other family members continue the tradition of Cosmo and Raffaela, producing an ever growing line of Cosmo’s antipasto specialties.”
