West Haven Resident Helps Lead Albertus Magnus To Record-Setting Day

The West Haven High School graduate helped lead the Albertus Magnus College women's basketball team to a record-setting victory.

WEST HAVEN, CT — West Haven’s Sarah Evangelista helped lead the Albertus Magnus College women’s basketball team to a record-setting victory over the weekend.

The Falcons set a program record with 20 3-pointers in a 105-42 victory over Dean in the team's Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) home opener on Saturday afternoon at The Nest in New Haven. It was the fifth straight win for Albertus Magnus (9-3, 2-0 GNAC).

The Albertus bench scored a season-high 60 points as Evangelista, a West Haven High School graduate, hit seven 3-pointers and led the team with 21 points, seven assists, and six rebounds as she followed up her five 3-point performance from the night before in a win over Baruch.

Hannah Barrientos (East Hampton) finished with a career-high 19 points, as did Kiyarah Watson (Waterbury), who scored 15.

Jakara Murray-Leach (Norwalk) finished with 17 points, and Caitlyn Scott (White Plains, N.Y.) scored 10.

The 63-point margin of victory was the team’s the largest this season and the second-largest in program history. The Falcons defeated Yeshiva, 107-42 (65 points) in 2012-13.
